What is the best product photo for a furniture preview?
A clean shot of the whole piece on a white or light neutral background, showing the product from a slightly elevated front angle. This is the standard main image format that most furniture retailers use, and it works exactly right for a room preview.
A white background works best because it makes it easier to separate the product from its surroundings during placement. A light grey or cream background also works well. What is harder to work with: lifestyle images where the product is shown in a styled room setting, and images where the product is photographed against a very dark background.
The product shot does not need to be high resolution. A standard image saved from a retailer product page is fine. What matters is that the shot shows the whole piece clearly from the front. A heavily cropped image, a top-down shot, or a photo that cuts off a leg or armrest reduces the accuracy of the placement.
Any retailer main product image works. Screenshots from product pages work too. Try it free on your own photo.
