The maker

Custom shelving is personal.A product photo can only show so much.

Founded by Nico Lyons, Lyons Crafted does not simply sell shelves. It creates the wall a family will look at every day: premium hardwoods, custom dimensions, hand-applied finishes, and optional lighting, all made to order for a particular room.

That craftsmanship creates a difficult ecommerce question. A shopper considering a custom hardwood piece they have never touched is being asked to imagine the finish, proportions, and presence on their own wall. Product photos and dimensions get them close. They cannot provide the final proof.

Andre Lemer of Lyons Crafted understood this earlier than most of the industry. He did not wait for visualization to become standard in furniture ecommerce. He went looking for it. His first stop was the technology everyone was talking about: augmented reality.

The AR dead end: a beautiful shelf, reduced to an ugly rectangle.

Andre tried AR first, and it failed his product. AR rendered Lyons Crafted's handcrafted shelves as flat geometric shapes floating on the wall. No grain. No finish. No warmth. The tool that was supposed to build purchase confidence was actively erasing the reason people buy Lyons Crafted at all: the craftsmanship.

Decision factor Traditional AR AI visualization

How the shelf looked

A crude rectangle overlay. Wood grain, texture, and finish were lost.

The store's real product photography, placed in the shopper's room with believable scale and light.

What the merchant needs

Prepared 3D models for every SKU. Expensive catalog work for a made-to-order maker.

The product images already on the store. Nothing else.

What the shopper does

Needs a compatible device, camera permissions, and space to walk around in.

Uploads one photo of their room. Works on any device, any browser.

Effect on a premium brand

Made a handcrafted product look cheap, and left "what will this look like on my wall?" unanswered.

Shows the finished room, so the craftsmanship sells itself in the customer's own space.

Purchase confidence

The disappointing rendering added hesitation instead of resolving it.

Seeing the finished room helped shoppers move toward purchase with greater confidence.

This is not a theoretical comparison. It is the sequence Lyons Crafted actually lived: AR first, disappointment, then AI. Merchants with flat or wall-mounted products (shelves, frames, mirrors, panels) hit the same AR wall hardest.

"I tried AR first, and it was awful," Andre told us. "It made our premium shelves look like cheap video game assets. The craftsmanship was completely lost. DecorViz was the first tool that actually respected the quality of what we make."

The AI visualization experience

How it works.Four steps. One decision.

01

Shopper sees "See in Your Room"

The button appears natively on the Lyons Crafted product page. No redirect. No third-party branding. It feels like a premium feature built into the store.

02

They upload a photo of their actual room

From their phone. Their kitchen. Their hallway. No DecorViz account required. No app to download. Frictionless.

03

The shelf appears in their space

Using the existing product images from the Lyons Crafted store, DecorViz generates a photorealistic placement with believable proportions, lighting, and shadow, in seconds.

04

Doubt becomes certainty

The shopper sees the walnut finish against their floors. They see the scale on their wall. The imagination gap closes. The cart fills.

The numbers moved. Nico measured the difference.

Lessons from Lyons Crafted

What Lyons Crafted proved about selling furniture online.

Psychology

The Endowment Effect

When a shopper sees your product in their own room, they psychologically begin to "own" it. Taking it away feels like a loss. DecorViz triggers this the moment they see their shelf on their wall.

Conversion

Certainty converts

Premium shoppers aren't cheap. They're cautious. They need to know before they commit. DecorViz gives them the visual proof they need to feel confident. Confidence converts.

Returns

Returns fall when expectations match reality

When customers already know what the product looks like in their space, there's no surprise when it arrives. A more accurate expectation helps reduce avoidable returns.

Merchant questions

What furniture merchants ask us.

01Do I need 3D models to use DecorViz Storefront?+

No. DecorViz Storefront uses the product images already on your store. There is no 3D modeling requirement, no per-product configuration, and no changes to your existing photography. If your product has a photo, it can be visualized.

02What's the difference between AR and what DecorViz does?+

AR overlays a 3D model onto a live camera feed. For furniture, this requires expensive custom 3D models and typically produces low-fidelity results that don't capture texture, grain, or finish. DecorViz uses AI to place your actual product photography into a customer's uploaded room photo, preserving every detail of the product while generating a photorealistic, contextual preview.

03Does the shopper need to create an account or download anything?+

No. The experience is entirely frictionless. Shoppers click the button on your product page, upload a photo of their room, and see the result in seconds. No DecorViz account, no app download, no redirects. It feels like a native feature of your store.

04What should I measure after launch?+

Track conversion rate, gross sales, and returns. Since implementing DecorViz, Lyons Crafted reports that it has nearly doubled conversion rates, increased gross sales by 35%, and cut returns in half.
